This is a game of huge proportions, pretty much an “El Classico” on international level with five time world champions Brazil host 2 time world champions Argentina. After a slow start to their world cup qualifying campaign, Brazil hos now won matches consistently and sit top of the table with 21 points. However, Argentina has had a pretty opposit campaign so far where they won games in earlier rounds, have found themselves stuck in a rut as far as last few rounds are concerned. As we go into the round 11 match, Argentina sit just outside the qualifying position with 16 points and must get something out of this game to keep themselves in the hunt.
Last time these two meet was back in November 2015 when Lucas Lima’s second half equalizer for Brazil earned a respectable point for Samba Boys in Argentina. However things have changed alot since than with Argentina starting with Messi upfront after he reversed his international retirement decision while Brazil will be full strength making it one of the most important games this weekend.
This is how I expect both teams to lineup for tonights clash. The confirmed lineups will be announced closer to the start of the game.
Predictions: Argentina has been one of the best teams in world football for best part of last 3 years but they are struggling for form going into the very important qualifier against Brazil. However the so called home advantage might turn into disadvantage if Brazil start slow and let Argentina dictate the play with Messi pulling the strings. I expect Brazil to have more of the ball but with Messi playing upfront Argentina has a real chance of winning this game. I am going with 2014 world cup finalists to get one over their arch rivals and take important three points.
