Arsenal started their 2016-17 Champions League campaign in a familiar fashion as they found themselves 1-0 down in Paris against PSG when Edinson Cavani scored inside first minute to put homeside in lead. Arsenal however dig deep and found a way back into the game late in second half through Alexis Sanchez who scored in 78th minute to make things interesting as we went into the last part of the game.
Paris Saint Germain 1-1 Arsenal Highlights
[ UEFA Champions League 2016-17 ]
01′ 1 – 0 Edinson Cavani scores with a glancing header inside first minute to put homeside in lead.
78′ 1 – 1 Alexis Sanchez brought Arsenal back into the game late in second half.
Both Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain has made similar slow starts in their respective leagues and this game comes at a time where both sides are still getting to know their best system. Arsenal will be slightly confident going into the game after their win over the weekend against Southampton which came late in injury time. While PSG struggled as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Saint-Etienne on Friday night.
Arsenal are in Group A which is pretty much straight forward group where we can expect both PSG and Arsenal to qualify regardless of their results against each other. Other two teams are Ludogorets Razgrad and FC Basel. We take a look at possible starting lineups of both Arsenal and PSG.
Team News & Lineups: Arsenal will be without the likes of Mertesacker, Gabriel, Wellbeck and Ramsey. Arsene Wenger might opt to start with new summer signing Lucas Perez in the attack while Ozi, Sanchez and to keep their places in advance roles. Mustafi to lineup in central defence alongside ever present Koscielny.
Unai Emery on the other hand is expected to start with full strength side with Ben Arfa and Lucas Moura starting alongside Cavani in three man attack. This is how I expect both teams to lineup on Tuesday night.
Match Predictions: Arsenal usually start slow in europe but pickup the pace in later matchdays to some how qualify for knockout stages. This year however, Arsenal are a much strong side with so much depth in the squad. PSG on the other hand are not having the best of times on the field and they might struggle to cope with Arsenal’s fast counter attacking football. I am going with a surprise 2-1 win for Arsenal in this one.
