FC Barcelona visit Wanda Metropolitano for the very first time as they take on Atletico Madrid in the Spanish La Liga game on Saturday, 14 October 2017. This game holds significant importance in the title race as Barcelona has already managed a 6 points lead at top of the table. Atletico Madrid must win this game to not only within 3 points off Barcelona but also to break the winning streak Barcelona are on at the moment. The game will be a later kickoff starting at around 20:45 CET / 19:45 uk time and SkySports has live coverage in the UK. Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Preview: Atletico Madrid has only played two league games at their brand new stadium and Barcelona’s make their very first visit to this incredible state of the art arena for a game which should be a cracking one over this weekend. Barcelona will be looking to make it 8 wins out of 8 this season and not only stretch their lead at top of the table but also put both Madrid clubs under pressure so early in the season.
Atletico Madrid 1-2 FC Barcelona – February 2017
[ Spanish La Liga 2017 Match ]
45′ [0 – 0] Atletico dominated first half but failed to score while Barcelona looked threatning in the final third forcing Oblack to make several good saves.
64′ 0 – 1 Rafinha scored midway through second half with a superb close range effort to make it 1-0 for Barcelona and put them in lead what could be crucial three points in title race.
70′ 1 – 1 Diego Godin scored with a near post header to make it 1-1 on the day.
87′ 1 – 2 Lionel Messi scores late in second half to secure all three points for Barcelona.
Luis Enrique will keep his full strength side which means Messi, Neymar and Suarez to start upfront while Iniesta, Rakitic and Busquets to play in midfield. Sergio Roberto, Pique and Mascherano to start in central defense roles while Ter Stegen to play in goal for Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid on the other hand will keep the french duo of Antoine Griezmann and Kevin Gamiero upfront with four man midfield of Augusto Fernandez, Koke, Saul Niguez and Nicolas Gaitan. This is how I expect both teams to lineup on Wedesday night.
Match Predictions: looking at the recent history between the two sides one can predict another close game, possibly a score draw. But Atletico are playing much better football since the turn of the year and they will cause all sorts of problems for Barcelona. However with wounder Messi, Neymar and Suarez hoping to finish the season on a high Atletico will have to play out of their skin to get somthing from this game. I am going with another score draw (2-2) which won’t suite either side.
