Manchester City needed a win to keep themselves in the top 4 positions in the league when they visited Stamford Bridge in the premier league game on Saturday, 16th April. City started with full strength side and they looked the better side in the opening exchanges. De Bruyne and Nasri missed easy one on one chances before Sergio Aguero finally put City 1-0 up before the break and he doubled the lead just after half time to make it 2-0 and completed his hattrick with the late penalty.
Manchester City dominated Chelsea in the opening 45 minutes and they took the deserved lead just after the half hour mark when De Bruyne’s pass deflected into Aguero’s path who unleashed a superb drive past Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois to make it 1-0. City missed couple of easy chances to take the lead in first half. De Bruyne was guilty of missing a sitter when Yaya Toure sent him through on goal but he scuffed his shot. While Nasri failed to finish from a close angle when Courtois rushed him on what was a decent chance.
Sergio Aguero was in absolute superb form and he grabbed his second of the day just after the half time to pretty much end the contest. Thibaut Courtois was sent off for late lunge on Fernandinho resulting in penalty which Aguero converted to complete his hattrick.

Match Preview: Both teams has meet twice earlier in the season where City won the premier league game back in August while Chelsea ran out 5-1 winners in the FA Cup tie couple of months ago when Pelligrini started with under 21 team getting heavily criticized for doing so. But that seems along time ago as City has qualified for champions league semifinals and Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to field under-21s was is kind of justified.
Chelsea has taken City’s lead to appoint Antonio Conte as new manager by the start of new season and that has not gone down very well as Chelsea lost their first league game last weekend since Hiddink took charge back in december. However Chelsea will be up for City clash with several players hoping to impress the new manager by putting good showing from now to the end of the season. it all set up a superb game of football at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
Man City, having played their most important game in the midweek against PSG, will be looking to freshen up the squad by putting in some fringe players in the starting lineup. This is how i expect both teams to lineup on Saturday.
Match Predictions: City defeated Chelsea 3-0 in the premier league fixture back in August 2015 while Chelsea’s 5-1 win over City was against pretty much under-21 team. Overall fixtures between these two sides have been very competitive in last couple of seasons and I expect another close game on Saturday. I just fee Chelsea might be fresher of the two combine that was City’s dodgy away form I am going with a 2-1 win for Chelsea.
Last match review: Manuel Pelligrini started with several youngsters in the FA Cup fifth round tie against Chelsea which he described as “not a real match”. Chelsea on the other hand were in full strength and took the lead through Costa but Faupala made it 1-1 just before the break. Chelsea came out stronger in the second half and scored two goals in space of 5 minutes to take 3-1 lead while Hazard and Bertrand Traore scored to make it 5-1. watch match highlights of the game here.
