Chile are through to their second consecutive copa america final with a 2-0 win over Colombia. Chile score two early goals and lead 2-0 within first 11 minutes. Colombia hanged in there as thunderstorm forced the play to stop for around 3 hours.
It was Aranguiz who tapped home the opener in just 7th minute to put Chile in lead. Colombia’s shaky defence let one more in minutes later when Fuenzalida scored from close range to pretty much settle the tie.
Chile 2-0 Colombia
[ Copa America 2016 Semifinal ]
07′ 0 – 1 Charles Aranguiz scored with a close range tap in to open the scoring in just 7th minute.
11′ 0 – 2 Jose Fuenzalida doubled chile’s lead minutes late with another close range tap in.
Colombia has enjoyed a decent run of form which see them take the third spot on FIFA rankings and that came as a surprise with some of the big name players left out from the squad. Jose Pekerman, Colombia coach has installed a hard work mentality and built the team around super star James Rodriguez who is pivotal if Colombia were to reach final. Juan Cuadrado is another name who has impressed in this tournament.
Chile on the other hand looked lethargic in their opening two games where a defeat against Argentina and lucky narrow win over Bolivia showed problems with the team. But they turned things around in their final group game brushing off Panama 4-2 while a dominant display against highly rated Mexico earned them a 7-0 win and the place in the semifinals. This is how I expect both Colombia and Chile to lineup on Wednesday night.
Match Predictions: This one is hard to predict, Colombia has improved alot in last few years and in this Tournament they have shown they can be a very difficult team to cope with their counter attacking football. Chile on the other hand have some quality players all around and I am going with Chile to win the tie albeit narrowly.
