England too on Wales in the highly anticipated all british clash and they needed a win to keep themselves on track for the qualification to next round. But Wales made it difficult for them throughout the first half sitting back and putting bodies behind the ball. England had couple of decent chances but not consistant threat and than came the killer blow for Wales when Gareth Bale’s long range free-kick found its way into England net largely down to Joe Hart error. England however turned things around in second half with Jamie Vardy and Danial Sturridge scoring in second half to win important three points for England.
Daniel Sturridge scored injury time winner to win important three points for England. having gone 1-0 down in first half thanks to Bale’s goal England needed to do what they have never done at major tournament and thats to come from behind and win the game but Vardy and Sturridge second half strikes complete turnaround.
Overall a very cagey first half where both teams lacked creativity in the final third. Bale’s goal however put Wales 1-0 up and England needed to turn thigns around in second half or face to prospect of getting knocked out in group stages. They did just that bringing on Sturridge and Vardy in second half and it took just 10 minutes for England to find a way back into the game when Vardy scores from close range. With just 1 minute left on the clock England scored again this time it was Sturridge who scores after some nice footwork and putting the ball in the net.
Wales 1-0 England
[European Championship 2016, Thursday, 16th June ]
42′ 0 – 1 Gareth Bale scored with a long range freekick but Joe Hart should have done better.
56′ 1 – 1 Jamie Vardy came on as second half sub and scored with his third touch of the ball from close range. Shouts of offside but it was Ashley Williams who headed the ball before it fall for Vardy.
90′ 2 – 1 Daniel Sturridge score late in second half to win the game for England
Preview & Team News: Its a must win game for England and we might see couple of changes in the starting lineup. Jamie Vardy is expected to start in-place of Rahim Sterling while rest of the lineup should remain the same. Wales on the other hand will take the field with pretty much the same lineup.
England produced a good performance against Russia in the opening game but they were unlucky to concede late in the game dropping two points. Roy Hodgson is likely to hand Vardy the start after Rahim Sterling failed to impose himself against Russia and missed several chances. Kane should keep his place upfront with Rooney, Vardy and Alli playing in attacking roles while Eric Dier and Jack Wilshere set to start in midfield.
Wales on the other hand will keep their winning unit as Bale and Robson Kanu to play upfrton while Joe Allen, Ramsey and Ledley to start in midfield with 5 man defense. this is how I expect both teams to lineup.
Match Predictions: Wales win over Slovakia surprised a few people and how good they played as a team. Now England is a different level and if England can produce similar showing that of first half against Russia Wales might find themselves in trouble with their backs to wall. having said that, in Gareth Bale they have a world class player who can hurt any defense and we are most likely to see Wales sitting deep and trying to catch England on the break. I am going with a narrow England win in this one on Thursday afternoon.
