Liverpool are set to take on Tottenham in the premier league game on Sunday, 22 October 2017 at Wembley Stadium in what should be a cracking game of football. Anything but a win for Liverpool and their title challenge is virtually over and we are not even in November yet. However Tottenham can not only close the gap at top of the table but also make a statement of intent with a win. The game will be the last kickoff off the weekend on Sunday starting at around 16:00 uk time and SkySports has the live coverage in the UK.
Match Highlights (Tottenham 4-1 Liverpool)
Tottenham 3-1 Liverpool Highlights
[ Premier League 2017-18 Match ]
04′ 1 – 0 Harry Kane scores inside first 5 minutes to put Spurs 1-0 in lead.
12′ 2 – 0 Heung-Min Son doubled the lead after Harry Kane was allowed free run on goal from halfway line and he setup Son brilliantly as Spurs raced to 2-0 lead in 12th minute.
24′ 2 – 1 Mohamed Salah however pulled one back for Liverpool but it was short lived.
45′ 3 – 1 Dele Alli scored Tottenham’s third of the day just before half time.
Tottenham vs Liverpool Preview: Liverpool have won only 3 of the opening 8 games which leave them 9 points behind league leaders Manchester City. Another draw of defeat and they might be starring at 12 points gap by the end of the weekend, surely too much to count them title challengers for rest of the season. Tottenham are third in the table with 17 points and they can get closer to both Manchester clubs with a win.
Historically matches between these two teams generate loads of goals. Liverpool are unbeaten against Tottenham in the last 10 games in all competitions scoring as many as 24 goals and conceding just 7. But with Harry Kane in such good form it will be interesting to see how Liverpool cope with his goal scoring powers.
Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham – February 2017
[ English Premier League 2017 Match ]
16′ 1 – 0 Sadio Mane scored inside first 16 minutes to put Liverpool in lead after a very fast start by Klopp’s men.
18′ 2 – 0 Sadio Mane was at it again minutes later making it 2-0 after Tottenham failed to clear 2 rebounds and Mane slotted home from close range.
Liverpool knocked out Tottenham in fourth round of EFL Cup while a 1-1 draw earlier in the season at White Hart Lane was a good result for both teams. However going into the business end of the season this one is a must win for both teams. Klopp however will take heart from the fact that they will be playing just 14 games from now to end of the season which give them enough time to prepare every match as a cup final to ensure they finish in top 4. Spurs on the other hand will be playing in Europa League and FA Cup which means two games a week making their finish to the season harder than Liverpool.
This is how expect both teams to lineup this Saturday evening.
Match Predictions: Every premier league game is hard to predict this season but Liverpool are even more unpredictable having taken points of City, Arsenal and Chelsea but sometimes struggle against bottom clubs. Spur’s has been superb this season and part of the reason is their consistent form but they do have problem when it comes to playing against traditional big teams in the league. I am going with another draw but this time both teams to score.
