Gareth Bale Signs 5-Year Contract Extension: Real Madrid announced on Sunday that Gareth Bale has signed financially improved 5-year deal to stay at the club till 2022. With the new deal he takes no.3 position in the highest paid footballers list overtaking Neymar who recent signed a contract extension himself. The news comes after both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos signed their respective deals. However Ronaldo remains the highest paid player not only in Real Madrid but also worldwide and it is widely expected he will also signed a new contract extension in december.
The new deal will take Bale’s basic salary to around £18 million but with performance related bonuses it might reach £20 million a year. The biggest performance related clause included in the contract is off Bale winning the Ballon d’Or and in that case his basic salary will automatically increase by further £3 million a year.
|Contract Period||6 year contract (2016 to 2022)|
|Basic Salary (Yearly)||£18m net per season|
|Bonus Add-ons (Yearly)||Max £3m per season (depending on individual and team performances)|
|Ballon d’Or||In case Gareth Bale wins Ballon d’Or anytime during the new 6 year deal his basic salary will be increased by further £3m.|
Real Marid president Florentino Perez will hope the new deal will ward off the interest from Manchester United who have been very keen to sign Gareth Bale for another record transfer fee. Bale’s previous deal was suppose to run till 2019 where he was earning around £256,000 a week.
