Billy Joe Saunders has defeated Russian Artur Akavov with a unanimous decision 116-113, 116-112, 115-113 and still the WBO middleweight champion. It turned our harder than expected fight for the British boxer who looked visibly tired towards the end but hanged in there to finish the job.
Billy Joe Saunders will be fighting Russian boxer Artur Akavov on Saturday, 03 December 2016 at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. It will be the very first title defense for Billy Joe Saunders as he put his WBO middleweight belt on the line in what should be a straight forward fight for him atleast on paper. It will be broadcasted live in the UK on BoxNation. The coverage begins at around 08:00 pm uk time and there are several undercard fights on the night.

This fight is a let down for Saunders who was looking for mega fights after winning the WBO middleweight title from Andy Lee last year. A mega fight between Saunders and Golovkin never metarialised while he backed off from fighting on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs Smith against the likes of Willie Monroe Jr or Curtis Stevens. Another possible fight was a rematch between Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr but both parties failed to come negotiate the rematch which leaves Saunders no option but to fight little known Russian Artur Akavov.
BoxNation usually have pretty solid coverage for British based boxing events and we can assume another top notch coverage from the network who broadcast live events both on TV and via their website and mobile apps. But if for some reason you don’t have live access you can always tune in here for full fight replay afterwards.
