Gennady Golovkin is set to defend his walterweight titles agains Kell Brook on Saturday, 10th September 2016 at the London’s O2 Arena. If there was ever an indication that money dictate boxing, this fight is the one. The fight might not make sense to proper boxing fans but as far as money is concerned both fighters will be rewarded handsomely. Both Brook and Golovkin are inline to earn their career best purse of around $5million each.
Gennady Golovkin camp was deep in negotiations with Billy Joe Saunders but fight failed to materialized followed by another negotiation breakdown with Eubank Jr. Eddie Hearns who also promote Eubank Jr, was negotiating Kell Brooks vs Jesse Vargas at the same time but Hearns was reluctant to match Jesse Vargas financial demands. So Hearns offered Kell Brook the Golovkin fight and in no time deal was agreed by both parties and the announcement took the boxing world with surprise
Fight will be at 160lbs, Golovkin is naturally bigger and the fight will be in London where Brook might not have as much support as he would have in Sheffield or Manchester. Golovkin is bookies favourite to win on 10th September while Kell Brook is confident he can do what other 33 fighters have failed so far. Either way both fighters will be taking home their biggest purse yet. Golovkin best purse so far has come in his previous two fights against Dominic Wade ($2 million) and David Lemieux ($2 million) while he made only $1.5 million on his PPV debut against Willie Monroe Jr.
|Gennady Golovkin||$5 million||Golovkin is not getting any PPV share|
|Kell Brook||$5 million||Brook might clear slightly more than Golovkin with his PPV contract with SkySports.|
