Andre was is set to take on Sergey Kovalev in the rematch this Saturday, 17th June 2017 in what should be a massive at the Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas in Nevada, USA. Ward put his undefeated record and WBA, WBO and IBF light-middleweight titles on the line against the opponent he already got the better of (albeit very narrowly) back in late 2016. The rivalry has gone a notch up since than and Sergey Kovalev has been very vocal of his chances in the build up. As for boxing fans this is one of the good fight cards which also include couple of very exciting fights with Guillermo Rigondeaux taking on Moises Flores.
Short Preview: Andre Ward made his name several years ago in that Super Six tournament where he defeated the likes of Mikkel Kessler, Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham but since than his career has been stalled due to off the ring promotional disputes. He moved to light-heavyweight earlier in the year and produce couple of quality performances but this without a shadow of a doubt his biggest test yet in his otherwise undefeated career. What is more interesting is both fighters coming into this bout with similar records, Sergey Kovalev himself is undefeated and widely considered as the best light-heavyweight out there.
Andre Ward became new light-heavyweight champion after beating Sergey Kovalev in one of the most closely fought bout in recent history where although result shows a unanimous win but all three judges scored the fight at [114-113], [114-113] and [114-113].
There are three undercard fights including, Oleksandr Gvozdyk taking on Isaac Chilemba in light-heavyweight elimination bout while Curtis Stevens fight James de la Rosa in middleweight category followed by Maurice Hooker taking on Darleys Perez for super light-weight. So the night is all set for boxing fans and it is a great way to end the 2016 with probably the biggest and potentially most competitive bout of the year.
Andre Ward is challenging, Sergey Kovalev for all his three light-heavyweight belts including (WBA, IBF and WBO). Ward already has WBA Super middleweight title which is not at stake.
