India defeated Australia in their final Twenty20 group game on Sunday, 27th March and qualified for the Semifinal against West Indies which will be played on Thursday, 31st March 2016 in Mumbai. Australia posted a competitive target of 161 runs but India with Virat Kohli in absolute majestic form chased it down with 5 balls to spare.
India looked in trouble early one while chasing a 161 runs target but Kohli paced his inning pefrectly guiding India to their second consecutive World Twenty20 semifinal. Kohli scored 82 runs of just 51 balls and thats more than 50% of the chase done by him. Incredible really!. You just need to sit back and admire the qualify of this great batsman.
India did not had all their way though, Australia having won the toss elected to bat first on a decent looking pitch. Usman Khawajah and Aaron Finch produced stunning start to Australia inning where the piled up first 50 inside 4 overs.
But once Khawaja got out, Aussies lost their way a little bit and at one point it looked like they won’t reach 150. But some late order blitz from Maxwell, Watson and keeper’s Peter Nevill’s 11 of 3 ball cameo guided Australia to a competitive 160 runs.
Australia bowlers had Indian top order rattled early on as the hosts failed to accelerate at the required rate. Virat Kohli started the inning in modest form only looked for singles and doubles.
Yuvraj Singh hurt his ankle making it difficult for him to run between the wickets but he carried on for a useful 21 of 18 balls. His partnership with Kohli was crucial as India saw off Australia fasting bowling spells and did not lose 4th wicket until late in the game.
Needing 12 runs an over in last 4 overs, Kohli suddenly exploded and scored 14 runs of first three balls in 18th over getting India to within touching distance. He did not stop there as he scored another four consecutive boundaries in 19th over to pretty much seal the game.
Dhoni as he usually do finished the game off the first ball of last over with a boundary for the delight of home fans. It was a sensational game and India will be mighty favourites to not only reach the final from here but actually win it. Their next assignment will be West Indies on Thursday, 31st March 2016.
