Colombian forward James Rodriguez won the FIFA Puskas Award (Goal Of the Year) with his stunning strike in the world cup against Uruguay, beating the competition of Robin Van Persie world cup goal against Spain and women nominee Stephanie Roche.
The FIFA ballon Dor award gala will be taking place on 12 January 2015 in Zurich, where several awards will be given to such as men and women best player of the year, best coach award and the best goal of the year which is know as “Puskas Award”. FIFA has already trimmed their 23 man list, fighting for the biggest individual prize in football called Ballon D’or, to just 3 footballers (Ronaldo, Messi and Neuer) while we are also given a choice to choose the best goal of the year from the following three.
#1. Stephanie Roche (left footed volley)
For the very first time in history of football a goal from women football is nominated in the top three goals for the Puskas award. Roche received the ball and take two touchest before unleashing a volley with her third touch of the ball and all that without letting the ball touch the turf. Great Goal!
#2. Robin Van Persie (Flying Header) – World Cup 2014
Probably the most memorable goal of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Holland were trailing against Spain in the opening group game when a long hopeful by Daley Blind was meet by Van Persie with a stunning diving header which left Iker Casillas in no mans land.
#3. James Rodriguez (Left Footed Volley) – World Cup 2014
The eventual golden boot winner James Rodriguez scored a couple of belters in world cup including this superbly timed volley. He recieved the ball with his chest and pulled a great volley in the top corner to win Colombia a place in the quart finals.
