Going into the 2018-19 season Chelsea’s wage bill stands at around £220m (fourth highest in the league behind Manchester clubs and Liverpool). There has been a clear intention from Chelsea to reduce the wage bill considering their transfer business over last two seasons. They let go the likes of Namanja Matic, John Terry and Diego Costa last year and their summer 2018 transfer business has only brought in one player Jorginho for around £52 million. We take a look at Chelsea’s current squad contracts and player salaries in 2018-19 season.
Chelsea 2018-19 Transfers & Squad Contracts
Just like the last few seasons, Chelsea have spent wisely and their net spend has been incredible thanks to selling off deadwood or some of the youngsters who were on Chelsea books for quite some time. Unlike the lat season where Chelsea spent big but most of the new signing failed to live up to expectations, Chelsea have only signed one player in Jorginho. New manager Maurizio Sarri was expecting to add a top class forward but with Higuain signing for AC Milan we can safely assume Chelsea will have to stick with Morata and Giroud upfront. Below are the signings made by Chelsea in 2018
- Olivier Giroud – £18m (from Arsenal in January)
- Jorginho – £52m (from Napoli)
Maurizio Sarri himself signed 3 year deal (2018-19 to 2021) to become new Chelsea manager and will be earning around £7m a year for his services to the club.
