Centranario edition of Copa America will take place this year in USA which promises to be the biggest in Copa America history. 10 venues across US cities will host the 32 matches of record 16 teams participating. The group draws has been made and we can easily predict who will be playing home in knock out stages according to how the groups finishes. We take a look at Copa America predictions below.
Copa America Group Stage (Predictions)
The draw for the Copa America 2016 was made on 21st February and 16 teams were divided into four groups of four teams each. Every team will play three matches and top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the quarter finals stages. We have predicted how the group stages will pan out and how the teams will finish in group stages.
Not many surprises apart from we predict US to finish above Paraguay and Costa Rica in group A. Brazil to win group B while Peru should finish in second place above Ecuador. Uruguay to win group C while Venezuela should have enough in their locker to finish above Mexico. Group D is pretty straight forward with 2015 Copa America finalists Argentina and Chile to finish first and second in the group.
Knockout Stages Predictions: We have predicted United States to take advantage of home crowd and make it to the quarter final stage by finishing second in the group A behind Colombia. Since we know the draw for quarter final and semifinals we can develop a knockout stage prediction bracket.
- Group A winners will play Group B runners-up.
- Group D winners will play Group C runners-up.
- Group B winners will play Group A runners-up
- Group C winners will play Group D Runners-up
This is how teams will fair in the knockout stage according to totalSPORTEK predictions.
Colombia to beat Peru in the first quarter final while Argentina should get the better of group c runners-up Venezuela. Brazil will see off the challenge from home side USA and Uruguay to beat Chile in the last quarter final.
Semifinals Argentina need to win a major trophy with Lionel Messi at his peak and I predict them to make it past Colombia in the semifinals reach their third consecutive national team competition final. Brazil should beat Uruguay in the other semifinal.
Argentina vs Brazil Copa America Final: We predict Brazil and Argentina to make it to the finals which will quite easily be the biggest game of the summer even though Euros will be taking place at the same time. Depending on the available players.
If Messi is fit and in form I just think he will nick it for Argentina and finally break the curse of not winning a major competition with his national side
I would love to know your thoughts on the Copa America predictions and which team you think is going all the way this time around. Let me know your thoughts by commenting in the box below.
you got it all wrong. 1st colombia and brazil are taking alternative squads, they will not perform at their potential. 2nd venezuela national team is in crisis, they might not even have a team at all. 3rd Ecuador, USA, Peru, Mexico and Uruguay are the only teams that will for sure play at full potential. 4th Chile’s new manager pizzi is a wild card, i predict they will not perform well. They only won the last copa due to being hosts. 5th argetina winnig this tournament depends on messi’s attendance and fitness. Still even without messi they are still the best squad.
So: a) ecuador is making it out of the group stage (even as first!), b) brazil is not making it to the final. c) group a is irrelevant because both teams will be send off at the quarter finals, d) uruguay and mexico are making it out of group c.
i cant make a full prediction because there are two great unkowns: the performances of: argentina and chile, and one match outcome: uruguay vs. mexico. The (slightly) more likely case would see uruguay counter attackin mexico and winning by one goal. Then argentina defeats mexico and uruguay defeats chile. They both win their semis and the final is: uruguay vs. argentina.
Completely agree with you.
Completely agree with you.
My predictions for the quarter finals Colombia vs Ecuador, Brazil vs US. Argentina vs Uruguay and Mexico vs Chile. In the Semifinals, Uruguay vs Colombia, Brazil vs Mexico. Colombia and Mexico advance to the finals.
Slightly off. A) 1.Colombia 2. USA, B) Ecuador comes out on top, Brazil 2nd C) is the most unpredictable. Mexico has not been challenged yet so it’s hard to determine how good they are, Uruguay has done very well without Suarez & Cavani something no one saw coming. Jamaica is stronger than their record would indicate, and Venezuela has retaken their former position of being dead last in CONMEBOL, so I say 1.Uruguay 2.Jamaica. D) 1. Argentina, and I would not be surprised to see Panama out perform Chile, but the odds are on Chile.
1/4 finals: Brazil beat Colombia, and Ecuador beats USA. Uruguay beat Chile/Panama, and Argentina beat Jamaica.
Semi’s: Argentina squeak past Brazil, and Uruguay get past Ecuador
Final: Uruguay win again. You have to go back to ancient history to see the last time Argentina beat Uruguay in the elimination phase. Remember, Uruguay defeated Argentina in Argentina in 1987, and again in 2011, and won the Copa in both of those occasions. Uruguay is the most under rated team of this tournament. They have not got much press other than Suarez, but they are currently the strongest team in South American WC Qualifying. In their recent visit to Brazil they tied 2-2 with nearly half of their starters out to injury. They took down Colombia and Chile 3-0 respectively, interestingly without Suarez, and against Colombia without Cavani as well. Just looking at recent performances, I don’t see any other winner.
