2016 European Championships will be taking place in France starting from 10 June 2016 to 10 July 2016 across 10 venues in France. Euro 2016 is the 15th edition of european championships and it will be the biggest in history as its the first time that 24 teams will be competing in Europe’s flagship event at national level. Euro 2016 Format: Unlike the 16 teams Euro 2012 this year’s competitions will have 24 teams divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each. Top 2 teams in every group will automatically qualify for the knockout stage while 4 best third place teams will also join them in round of 16. Than of course the quarter finals, semifinals and the big final on 10th July at Stade de France, Saint-Denis. Below are all the details you want to know about Euro 2016.
Qualified Teams For Euro 2016
This will be the first time that 24 teams will compete in UEFA’s biggest european tournament in the world. 53 teams took part in the qualifying. divided into 9 groups (8 groups with 6 teams and 1 group with 5). Group winners, runners-up and the best third place team qualified directly alongside hosts France. 4 more teams joined them after two legged playoffs between 8 best third place teams.
Euro 2016 Group Stage Draw:
Since we have our all 24 teams the draw for the final event will take place on Saturday, 12 December 2015 in Paris, France. 24 teams are divided into 4 seeding pots according to their UEFA co-efficient ranking and they will be drawn into 6 groups of 4 teams each. After the draw is completed UEFA will release the final match schedule of 2016 Euros.
Euro 2016 Match Schedule:
51 matches starting with the opening game involving hosts France on 10th June 2016. Group Stage will last till 22 June 2016 and 34 group games will be played across all 6 groups. 8 Round of 16 matches will be played from 25-27 June 2016. Quarter finals will take place 30 june-3 july. Semifinals 6-7 July while the final will take place on 10th July.
Euro 2016 Prize Money Breakdown:
Euro 2016 is the biggest competition in european championship history not only in terms of more teams but also on the financial terms. Around $300 million will be distributed among 24 teams where winners will take home as much as €30 million euros. All 24 teams are guaranteed €8 million participation fees. Runners-up will get around €25 million.
Almost all the big nations has already unveiled their official home and away kits they will be using in the Euros. Adidas will be supplying kits to as many as 12 teams while Puma and Nike will produce kits for 5 teams each. Joma and Erra are other kit manufacturers for the euro teams.
Euro 2016 TV Channels Broadcasting worldwide:
UEFA has already sold rights to all european countries and other regions of the world. UEFA’s deal with European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to make use 26 countries in europe get free-to-air coverage. Every participating country’s national channel will broadcast matches of their own team live.
