Brazil took on Belgium in mouth watering quarterfinal game on Saturday night and it turned out to be a belter with Belgium taking a two goal lead by end of first half and they looked in control for most of the second half as well until substitute Renato Augusto scored a header to make it 1-2 for Brazil and setup a grand stand finish. Belgium held on to their 2-1 lead and qualify for 2018 FIFA World cup semifinals which will be against France on 10th July.
Brazil are set to take on Belgium in the 2018 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal match on Friday, 06 July 2018 in what should be a cracking day of football in Russia. The quarterfinals begin with France vs Uruguay which will be followed by another blockbuster with Brazil taking on Belgium later in the night. The game will kickoff at around 20:00 CET / 19:00 uk time.
Brazil vs Belgium Preview: Brazil had an easy group where without hitting top form they managed to make it out as group winners. They also defeated Mexico with rather ease in the first knockout stage game and now they face their first real test against Belgium on Friday. Its a huge game for Brazil who will be slightly favourites to make it to the semifinals. Tite don’t have any major injury worries apart from Casemiro suspension and he will be missed against Belgium.
Roberto Martinez won’t be happy with the performance of Belgium in first 60 minutes against Japan. They failed to click and conceded two goals but he was spot on with his changes in second half with Fellaini and Chadli turning things around for Belgium. They will need to take their game up a notch when they face Brazil otherwise they will get hammered by this very balanced Brazilian side.
Team News & Possible Lineups: Brazil coach Tite has big decisions to make with Marcelo still a doubt while Casemiro suspended for the quarterfinal tie. Filipe Luiz should slot in as left back while Renato Augusto will start in midfield to replace Casemiro. Apart from that we can expect same lineup with Jesus, Willian and Neymar starting in three man attack.
Belgium on the other hand have problems with the system Martinez have deployed with three at the back and a packed midfield. Carrasco is vulnerable as wing back and we can safely assume he won’t be starting at that position again. De Bruyne is also look underwhelming playing deeper than his usual position.
Match Predictions: Both Brazil and Belgium squads are as talented as each other, however Brazil come with that certain flair and pedigree which Belgium don’t have. However Belgium do have the players to match Brazil on every position, in some cases better. There are huge expectations from both of these teams and this match is coming a round earlier than it should have. I am leaning towards Brazil in this one purely because Martinez is somehow failing to get the best of De Bruyne. I am going with a entertaining 2-1 win for Brazil in this one.
