United took the lead in the first half when Palace player Scott Dann handeled the ball inside the box and Juan Mata stepped up to convert and give United a flying start in a very important game. It was constant pressure from Ashley Young as he crossed the ball in the box which was awkward and resulted in a handball.
But United lacked the cutting edge and never really got behind Palace defense, who after the break were totally different team as they dominated the midfield and looked more likely to score. It took couple of world class saves for Daivd De Gea to keep United in the match specially the one where he stopped with his right hand from close range.
Jason Puncheon scored from a deflected shot to make it 1-1 after the break which kind of put United on the backfoot and they struggle to keep the ball and impose themselves on the home team. But Palace missed their chances and United hit them with a suck punch.
Marouane Fellaini was again came to rescue for United and their hopes for securing top four finish in the premier league table when he scored a header at the far post late in the game to earn important three points which might secure Champions League football this week as Tottenham has already lost this week and Liverpool will be playing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. So if Liverpool were to lose against Chelsea tomorrow United will secure the Champions League football next season.
