France had already qualified with their two wins in the first two games and needed a positive result against Switzerland to keep themselves top of the table. Another hard fought competitive group A game and this time France failed to get that late goal as it all ends in draw leaving both France and Switzerland to qualify automatically to the last round. Albania’s win over Romania put them third in the table and they might just sneak through to knockouts if other group results go their way.
Preview & Possible Lineups: Switzerland are a much improved side these days than the one who got hammered 5-2 against France back in 2014 world cup. They fact that Switzerland has not beaten neighbors since 1992 but they do have a good chance of surprising the home nation on Sunday. A win for either side will ensure top spot in the group which has its liberties as group winners will be playing one of the best third place teams.
As far as the team news is concerned, Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic has a full team to choose from. But their are some reports things are not all well in the Swiss camp with several player discontent with Petkovic style of play. Shaqiri has been vocal after being overlooked for captaincy and he suggested he might considering switch to play for “Kosovo” after the competition.
France on the other hand started with the Antoine Griezmann and Pogba, its highly likely both will be slotted back in the starting lineup and Payet might be given rest before the knock out begins. So this is how both teams might lineup on Sunday.
Match Predictions: Both teams will be happy with the draw but there is less pressure on France who will be using several second string players on Sunday. In the first two games they have added pressure of playing at home and failed to score early in the game but I expect them to dispose of Switzerland with a good performance on Sunday.
