Manchester United are set to start their 2017 pre-season USA tour with the first friendly game against MLS side LA Galaxy on Saturday, 15th July 2017 at the Stubhub Centre in Los Angeles. This is the second time United are playing LA Galaxy since Sir Alex retired and last time these two meet was back in 2014 when United thrashed Galaxy 7-0. Match Preview & Lineups: Manchester United have completed two major signings so far with Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku joining the reds while record goal scorer Wayne Rooney has left United to join Everton. Jose Mourinho is eager to sign at least two new players preferably a winger and a defensive midfielder before the start of new season and this tour gives oppertunities to the likes of Mata, Martial, Lingard and Rashford to stake a claim for starting places before new season begins midway through August.
Last time these two meet was back in July 2014 under Louis Van Gaal’s first season in charge. United hammered Galaxy 7-0 thanks to goals from Rooney, Welbeck and young. But this United side is almost unrecognizable from that 2014 unit but results remain to be seen.
With Both Ibrahimovic and Rooney leaving the club, United only have one recognized center forward in Romelu Lukaku and one would expect Mourinho to sign at least one more striker but there are not many options left. LA Galaxy might start with a under strength side but result is the last thing on Mourinho and United’s mind going into the match as they will be looking to ease players back into fitness.
