Preview & Team News: United has never won Europa League/UEFA Cup before and Louis Van Gaal was up-beat about the competition considering it United’s only realistic chance of getting qualification to next round of UEFA Champions League. But that is a long shot as so many quality teams are still competing in the competition but if United can put together a good run from now to the end of the season and take this competition seriously they might just win it.
FC Midtjylland has not played since 10 december 2015 because of the winter break in Denmark and that might prove to be the key as they will be well rested for their biggest game in history.
Louis Van Gaal has as many as 13 players out injured ahead of the first leg with Rooney for couple of months while Matteo Darmian (dislocated shoulder) and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (illness) are also on the sidelines leaving a makeshift back four and some youngsters in the squad ahead of tonights game. Academy players like Donald Love, James Weir, Joe Riley and Regan Poole has been included in the traveling squad and they might make their senior debuts on thursday night.
We can expect Schneiderlin and Carrick to anchor in the midfield while Memphis Depay, Mata and Lingard to play just behind Anthony Martial. Looking at the squad United might struggle to keep the clean sheet but all they need to do is to get atleast a score draw to go into the second leg with away goal advantage. Having said that United should have enough in their locker to win this game and kill the tie in the first leg.
