Croatia secured a rather comfortable win against Nigeria on Saturday night in what was a very solid performance all round. Luka Modric was pick of the player in central midfield as Nigeria struggled to cope with him for most part. the first goal came in first half when Etobo’s put the ball in his own net while Modric scored second half penalty to make it 2-0 and secured first win of the world cup.
Croatia are set to take on Turkey in the 2018 FIFA World Cup match on Saturday night, 16th June 2018 at the Kaliningrad Stadium in what should be a classic world cup match of Group D. Argentina and Iceland are the other two teams in the group who will play earlier making it a very competitive group where Argentina and Croatia are favorites to go through. The match will begin at around 19:00 uk time and BBC to show in the UK while US will have it on FoxSports.
Croatia vs Nigeria Match Preview: Croatia will be hoping to start their group D campaign with a win over Nigeria considering anything but a win will leave Croatia leaving to win remaining two games to qualify. Nigeria are a decent side with pace and counter attacking abilities however their defense is not their strongest point and thats where Croatia can hurt them.
This tournament represent last chance for most of Croatia’s golden generation to achieve something the country has never done before. Although they are not the favourites they do have a solid squad, specially the starting lineup to hurt any team on their day. Nigeria on the other hand are a decent unit but considering they are in a group of death its hard to see them getting out of it.
Possible Starting Lineups of Croatia & Nigeria:
Both teams are likely to start with similar systems of 4-2-3-1 but looking at both team sheets its so evident, Croatia are on a different level as far as quality in the starting lineup is concerned. They have proven midfielders in Modric and rakitic playing for two big clubs in Madrid and Barcelona while Maddzukic and Perisic will provide arial threat and pace upfront. Nigeria’s defense is very in experience and I can’t see them containing this Croatian side who might even top the group D.
Match Predictions: Look at the lineups of both sides and you can see superiority of Croatia on every level however luckily games are not played on paper and Nigeria do have a chance if they can frustrate Croatia. I am going with a tight game where 1 goal win it for either side im just leaning towards Croatia as most football fans would.
