Real Madrid set to sign the biggest kit deal in history of football with Adidas. The alleged kit deal is worth £.06 billion over the next 10 years making it the biggest in sports history.
Real Madrid are closing on signing a record breaking £106 million a year deal with Adidas for the next 10 year period. It will be the first time in history of sport that such a deal is worth more than £1 billion mark. The suggested figures were published in Madrid based newpaper “MARCA”. If the figures are true this will be by far the biggest kit deal in football history even putting Manchester United’s Adidas 10-year deal worth £750million into the shadows.
Real Madrid current contract with Adidas is worth £34 million a year which was signed back in 2012 and was suppose to run till 2020. But a new and improved financial deal will replace the current contract starting from 2016-17 season to 2025-26 season. This is a major step towards Real Madrid establishing themselves as the elite club in world football in league of their own. To put into perspective Real MAdrid’s new kit deal will be worth more than Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal deals combined.
Performance related clauses: The full £106 million a year is maximum Real Madrid can earn through new kit deal if they match all performance related clauses. Real Madrid has to win La Liga once every two years and qualify for the champions league knockout stages each and every season. Failure to achieve either of these clauses and get the yearly payment to £77 million a year.
CONTRACT PERIOD | TOTAL VALUE | YEARLY | CLAUSES |
10 Years (2016-26) | £1.06 billion | £106 million a year | £106 million a year only if Real Madrid wins La Liga once every two years and qualify for Champions League knockout stages every season. Otherwise £77 million a year. |
We can safely assume that Barcelona will be looking to match this kit deal as they are also nearing the end of their 10 year deal with Nike which will expire by the end of 2017-18 season. Barcelona are currently getting £24 million a year with Nike deal but since Adidas is splashing cash all around Nike will be more than willing improve Barcelona’s kit contract even before the current deal expires. Here are the current top biggest kit deals in world football.
