As manager Steven Gerrard approaches what he expects to be his first full season in charge of Aston Villa, the club will be aiming higher than their final position of 14th in the 2021/22 Premier League.

The only games Villa did not win in their six fixtures following Gerrard's appointment were narrow defeats to eventual Premier League champions Manchester City and nearest contenders Liverpool. In the first match, they will square off against the Premier League champion, Manchester City.
