2014’s New Grand Slam Order:
Last year swiss tennis star Stan Wawrinka went against all odds to register his first grand slam win in 2014 Australian Open beating firm favourite Rafael Nadal in the final, it was a major surprise because he was the first player outside top 4 (Nadal, Federer, Djokovic and Murray) to have won a grand slam since 2009 when Juan Martin Del Potro won his first grand slam in US Open 2009. But when Nadal won his record 9th French Open and Djokovic won another wimbledon title we though we wont get any surprise but than Marin Cilic and Kei Nishikori reached the final of US Open.
So will 2015 start at the same note like last year or the order of top 4 will restore, Rafael Nadal is making his comeback to grand slams after missing out US Open and Andy Murray is looking fit and raring to go while Roger Federer will always be there and about alongside hot favorite Novak Djokovic. We take a look at 2015 Australian Open mens and women singles and preview upcoming grand slam.
In US Open 2014 tt was the first time since 2005 when a grand slam final was contested without Nadal, Djokovic or Federer name. So did the last years surprise wins are signaling a new era in tennis or we will get back to big 4 domination as far as men’s championships are concerned.
If we take a look at the performances of big 4 (Djokovic, Nadal, Federer and Murray) in 2014 we can see that a new order is being formed with outsiders are getting the better of them with Nadal struggling with constant injuries, Murray being forced out due to back injury, Djokovic’s performance levels dropped a while Federer is on the down hill spiral in the last couple of years.
So looking at the statistics and the tred of ATP Tour getting more competitive and we can safely say that Wawrinkas and Cilics will have their fair share of chances in 2015 as well and I am quite confident that we will get a few surprises along the way. But their chances will get even stronger if Nadal keeps getting injured, Djokovic stick to his unpredictable form, Federer can’t raise his game and Murray dont repeat is 2012 and 2013 form.
Australian Open 2015 Predictions:
Andy Murray is regaining his form slowly but surely while with all his predictable performances in 2014 Novak Djokovic will go into the 2015 Australian Open as hot favorite having won the competition four times already, If Nadal is fit there is no reason not to expect his go far in the Australian Open but winning the event is a different matter all together.
I can see the likes of Stan Wawrinka, Cilic, Nishikori, Milos Raonic and Grigor Dimitrov to pose massive threat to whoever they face in later stages of Australian Open and I have a feeling one of them will get into the finals with one of the old guard and I am going with Djokovic in that regard.
What you think of upcoming Australian Open and men’s championship ? how you think it will go about, will the old guard rise again or the new tennis order will start their domination ? let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.
